Events Programme: January - March 2017From January to March we draw inspiration from Seamus Heaney’s collections North, Field Work and Station Island, interweaving exclusive appearances by critically acclaimed actors and authors, leading musicians and songwriters, with celebrations of local talent and creativity. The new programme features the likes of Glen Hansard, one of Ireland’s leading singer/songwriters, the Ulster Orchestra, the exceptional musician Finghin Collins, and the celebrated Peadar Ó'Riada. For this season's dramatic responses to Heaney's work, we welcome back Stephen Rea who is directing performance reflections on Field Work with the Field Day Theatre, while the Lyric Theatre explores Station Island and the innovative Kabosh theatre company interprets North. ‘In conversation’ and ‘meet the author’ events include local talent such as Deirdre Madden from Toomebridge, as well as acclaimed poets like Ruth Padel, Simon Armitage, Nick Laird and Leontia Flynn. A temporary exhibition - The Hedge School of Glanmore – will also be in HomePlace in February, exploring the importance of the small cottage in County Wicklow to Seamus Heaney’s writing. And don’t miss our workshop series, from the fascinating art of making paper by hand, to using traditional crafts and methods to fashion the practical food and garden baskets used around the shores of Lough Neagh in their thousands.
