Laoisha O'Callaghan: A talk at the British Museum September 17, 2016 It was the early 90s and I was a very young and floundering English lit teacher. Arriving early to hear Heaney speak at an evening event in the British museum in London, I found a bench to sit and watch and wile away the time. It took me a while to notice that someone else had joined me on the bench. It was Heaney himself. He wore a beautiful tweed suit, maybe Donegal, and carried a satchel, its leather lined and cracked with living. He smiled at me. I smiled at him. And then there we remained.
